Another shot of S.T.E.V.E. pole dancing. It’s always a thrill when he comes out to play but he is usually only seen in spring and summer. He will start to twist up into the sky in the south east, crossing the overhead and dissecting the Milky Way and then twisting back down onto the northwest horizon. He can be stationary for 20 mins. or longer. He doesn’t dance and change shape like the usual Aurora. (the phenomena known as S.T.E.V.E. was discovered by two citizen scientists right here in Alberta, it was given the name Steve by one of the two photographers in homage to the hedge named by characters in the Dreamworks children's movie “Over the Hedge”. When NASA agreed this was something apart from the usual Aurora, they loved the story of the name and backronymed it to mean Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement.)
